The New York Times health columnist, Tara Parker-Pope, is focusing on overtreatment in her contributions to “The Agenda,” a blog following the major issues of the election: Economy, World, Health, Security, Planet (I guess that’s how the major issues look from Eighth Avenue in NY, at least). Today, Pope offered observations on “an epidemic of overtreatment — too many scans, too many blood tests, too many procedures,” but as usual, the most fascinating aspect of the article is the ever-lengthening list of comments from the public. This opportunity to get your opinion into the world is such a felicitous aspect of the web. The anecdotes are astonishing – and I hope all the contributors show up at our conference next February!
